About Dave

Dave Seip: who the heck is he?

Hailing from deep in the Great White North of Minnesota, Dave has been involved in music since sixth grade. Growing up in Anoka, Minnesota, gave him many opportunities to experience music in many ways through middle and high school. Encouraged by his many musical mentors throughout his schooling, Dave set out to Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas, to earn his bachelor's degree in tuba performance. While pursuing his degree, Dave pursued music outside of school through a passion for drum and bugle corps, spending the summers of 2000 through 2003 marching for the Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps of La Crosse, Wisconsin. After completing his bachelor's degree in 2004, Dave continued his education at the University of North Texas, where he is currently completing his master's degree in performance.

Currently:

Besides completing his degree, Dave is involved with the Frontier Performing Arts Association of Dallas, Texas, as a performer, teacher and composer/arranger. He marched contra for the inaugural and second seasons of the Frontier Drum & Bugle Corps, and now is on the brass staff. He is the director of the Open Range Brass, the FPAA chamber ensemble program, and has arranged pieces for various performance venues.

His most active performing is with the Inner City All-Stars, a Denton, TX-based New Orleans-style brass band, where he has rediscovered the joys of the sousaphone and explored a wide variety of genres. He has used this opportunity to write pieces for the band and learn to appreciate and perform in virtually all styles of music. He has performed in several notable venues, such as Tipitina's of New Orleans or the famous Gypsy Tea Room of Deep Ellum, and many more are planned for the future.

Dave is a member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 72-147, Dallas/Fort Worth Professional Musicians Association.
